Mag NDT
Non-destructive testing using magnetic sensing, reading through material rather than around it.
What it is
Non-destructive testing asks a hard question: what is wrong inside this thing, without cutting it open or taking it out of service. Magnetic sensing answers it by reading through the material rather than around it. Corrosion, cracking, wall loss and a bad joint all disturb the field in ways a sensitive enough instrument can separate from the background.
The value is in what does not have to happen. Nothing is dismantled, nothing is shut down for longer than the inspection itself, and the same measurement can be repeated later and compared against the first one — because the quantity being measured is physical rather than an operator’s judgement.
Example applications
- Pipeline inspection
- Wall loss and corrosion in buried and insulated pipe, assessed without excavation and repeatably enough to be compared against the previous survey.
- Electronics manufacturing
- Current paths and joints inside a finished assembly, inspected after it is closed rather than only before.
- Automotive and aerospace parts manufacturing
- Subsurface defects in safety-critical parts, on a line that cannot afford to destroy the part in order to learn about it.
